The Epenstein circular trail takes you on a journey through the history of Dr. Hermann Epenstein (*8.1.1850 in Berlin - † 5.6.1934 in Mauterndorf), Knight of Mauternburg and royal Prussian military doctor, who had a significant influence on Mauterndorf through his generous charity and passion for art and hunting. This historical narrative takes you to various buildings marked with QR codes that are closely associated with this philanthropist and patron. His support laid a fundamental foundation stone on which we build today.
The trail begins at the Schlossmeierhaus and extends from there via the Fischerkeusche, the kindergarten, the elementary school, the volunteer fire department to Mauterndorf Castle, where the tour ends.
The intention behind the circular route is to prevent Epenstein's help and dedication from being forgotten, and to preserve it as an integral part of our history! We therefore welcome you to a fascinating 1.6 km walk through Mauterndorf, where the traces of Epenstein's work remain noticeable to this day!
