Your Date with Nature – Experience the Kaunertal Glacier Road
In western Tyrol, in the rear Kaunertal valley, a true gem is hidden — and it is accessible to everyone. The toll road known as the Kaunertal Glacier Road winds its way from the village of Feichten in Kaunertal over more than 1,000 metres in altitude up to the edge of the eternal glacier ice at 2,750 m.
The mountain landscape, shaped by glaciers millions of years ago, reveals small and large natural wonders to visitors, such as glacier mills, rusty-coloured rocks, wild streams and deep green mountain lakes.
A well-known photographer once described the Kaunertal Glacier Road as follows: “I am always fascinated by how the landscape changes from the valley up to the glacier. Whether I am looking for a Tibetan landscape, a Scottish highland moor or a backdrop for scenes set in Alaska — I can find it all here!”
My Summer Mountain Fendels
On a high plateau at the entrance to the Kaunertal valley, at 1,356 metres above sea level, lies the small mountain village of Fendels.
Fendels can proudly claim to be a typical Tyrolean mountain village that has preserved Tyrolean tradition and architecture over the centuries. Its sunny, peaceful location and the beautiful view of the Upper Inn Valley make Fendels an ideal starting point for many hikes and mountain tours.
The valley station of the chairlift is located directly in the village and quickly takes you right into a hiking paradise. Alternatively, you can take the gondola lift from Ried im Oberinntal comfortably up to Fendels and then continue further into the mountains. This idyllic Tyrolean mountain village is also an ideal holiday destination for families. A special highlight for children is the water playground. For slightly older holiday guests, the mountain bike trails are also worth mentioning.
