Lahnradweg 6th stage upstream Diez/Limburg - Weilburg

The Oranier town of Diez bids us farewell with two castles worth seeing. Both castles, Oranienstein Castle and the Count's Castle, are home to interesting museums. Diez has romantic half-timbered facades and welcoming cafés and restaurants. However, the stage also starts with one of the few noticeable climbs on the Lahnradweg. After rolling leisurely through Diez's old town centre, the route climbs via Pfaffengasse and Oraniensteiner Straße. But after a few hundred metres, you turn left into the street "zum Mühlchen" and from now on you can enjoy a more leisurely ride.

At Staffel, you leave Rhineland-Palatinate and cycle through Hesse. In Limburg, you should definitely take a look at the picturesque half-timbered old town. Limburg Cathedral is a must-see, also from the inside of course. And with the "Römer 2-4-6", Limburg is home to one of the oldest detached half-timbered houses in Germany. Numerous cafés and excellent restaurants invite you to stop for a bite to eat in the lively alleyways. After a stroll through the town, cross the old Lahn bridge and cycle past the outdoor pool to Dietkirchen, where the St. Lubentius Basilica sits enthroned on a rock high above the Lahn. There are lovely places to rest below the basilica.

From Dietkirchen, cycle along the same side of the Lahn via Dehrn and past Steeden towards Runkel. Shortly before Runkel, you cross the Lahn again. The route now follows Burgstraße through the fairytale town of Runkel. You should definitely plan some time to visit Runkel Castle. Where the Lahnradweg crosses the old Lahn bridge to the left, keep straight on for a short detour to the legendary ice cream parlour. Otherwise, cycle over the stone bridge, which, together with the castle in the background, is a popular photo motif.

After the bridge, turn right before the railway tracks, cycle past the station and follow the signs to Villmar, a small town known as the "home of Lahn marble" and a visit to the Lahn Marble Museum with the Unica Quarry natural monument is well worthwhile. In Villmar, you switch to the opposite side of the Lahn. From here, you follow the course of the river on the same side via Aumenau, Fürfurt and Kirschhofen to Weilburg. The view of the river and castle makes you want to take a little stroll through the town and castle. The stage ends at Weilburg railway station.

The Limburg (Lahn), Kerkerbach, Runkel, Villmar, Aumenau, Fürfurt, Gräveneck and Weilburg railway stations are located on the 6th stage.
