The Edelweißhütte is located directly at the Preiner Gscheid pass, at 1,070 m above sea level, and is a hub and starting point for numerous hikes.
The Preiner Gscheid itself is a mountain pass between the Rax and the wooded ridge that runs southward over the Tratenkogel to the foot of the Semmering. The pass lies on the border between Lower Austria and Styria and connects the towns of Reichenau an der Rax and Kapellen an der Mürz.
