Roncal. Santa Barbara and Puntatxamar

On the way to the Navarrese Pyrenees, in the eastern part of Navarre and crossed by the Esca River, we find the town of Roncal, birthplace of the famous tenor Julián Gayarre and heart of the valley to which it gives its name.

The Roncal Valley has a Mountain Bike Area with 15 decentralized routes throughout its geography. The itinerary proposed here is the sum of two shorter ones included in this space. Both are located at kilometer 15.5 in Roncal, so completing the proposal is optional.

The complete route accumulates an important unevenness when making two long ascents and with pronounced slopes as they are Santa Bárbara and Puntatxamar, but the panoramic views compensate the previous effort. The descent of both peaks is manageable for anyone with a minimum of skill on the bike. Santa Bárbara is very fast at the beginning and ends in the upper part of the town center. The Puntxamar is, without a doubt, the descent with the most "flow" of all those included in this Espacio BTT: fast, easy and fun, ending at the hermitage of the Virgen del Castillo.
