The Romanesque church of St. Catherine is situated on a rise in Avelengo/Hafling and can be seen from far away in Merano and Environs.
The Chuch with Gothic apse dates from the 13th century, features well-preserved frescoes from the 14th century and has a late Gothic Tyrolean winged altar (can only be viewed through an opening in the portal).
