St Olav Ostrobothnia (N) 9/11 Storkyro-Lillkyro
An easy, slightly shorter day trip along the Kyrö River, one of the many Ostrobothnian rivers that flow into the Gulf of Bothnia. The trail follows the roads first on the southern side of the river, then...
The starting point is the medieval church of Isokyrö. The area also includes the Mariedahl vicarage heritage site, memorials to those killed in the Battle of Napo in 1714 and those executed in the Cudgel War of 1596, as well as the Isokyrö Local History Museum. From here, the trail follows the cycle and car paths towards Tervajoki and on towards Vähäkyrö. At about 9 km, turn right and cross the bridge over the Kyro River (NB: there is a pizzeria and a grocery store about 500 m further on towards the centre of Tervajoki, if you continue straight ahead). The trail continues on the north side of the river.
At about 14 km you will find ‘Perkiön kyläranta’ on the riverbank, a spacious rest area with an outhouse. Vähäkyrö church can be seen in the distance as you approach the bridge over the river towards the centre.
