Bürgstadt

The picturesque town of Bürgstadt is one of the most important wine towns in Franconia when it comes to red wine. The variety and highest quality of Franconian red wine cultivation can be found especially in the ‘Börscheder’, as Bürgstadt wine is respectfully called in Churfranken.

But Bürgstadt is even more: the lively winegrowing community is an official Bavarian place of enjoyment, of which there are only 100 in the whole of Bavaria. This means that Bürgstadt's well-kept townscape, the lovely countryside surrounding Bürgstadt, its distinctive wine culture and the close network of producers of regional culinary delights with Bürgstadt's gastronomy form a great whole. Witnesses to Bürgstadt's long history include the famous 10th century Martinskapelle chapel with its ornate Bible for the poor from the late 16th century, the Renaissance town hall, a Neolithic hillfort, the ruins of the Centgrafenkapelle chapel from the Thirty Years' War and the lovingly designed museum with its focus on viticulture and stoneworking.

In Churfranken, however, Bürgstadt also stands for hiking culture, a great mountain bike trail and special leisure quality. Bürgstadt is a stage destination on the Franconian Red Wine Hiking Trail, offers 26 kilometres of touring fun with the ‘BÜ 1’ mountain bike trail and also invites you to enjoy kilometres of cycling and hiking trails, a heated outdoor pool with water slide and tennis and squash facilities.
