The Vienna State Opera is one of the top opera addresses in the world, with top productions at the highest level and a daily changing programme: over 50 operas and ballet works on around 300 days per season.

Vienna Opera Ball: Highlight at the Vienna State Opera
One night a year, the Vienna State Opera transforms into a large dance floor - at the Vienna Opera Ball, which is considered Austria's largest meeting place for artists, politicians and entrepreneurs from all over the world. Over one hundred debutant couples in long evening dresses or tailcoats open the ball of balls at the State Opera.

In April, May, June and September, around 150 opera and ballet performances will be broadcast live on a 50 m² screen at Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz in front of the State Opera - classical music enjoyment for free.

On guided tours you can take a look behind the scenes of the magnificent opera house. The Vienna State Opera building was built between 1863 and 1869 as one of the first magnificent buildings on the newly laid out Ringstrasse. The State Opera Museum provides an insight into the history of this institution and casts a spell over every opera lover.
