IN CLOSE TOUCH WITH HIGH ALPINE RESEARCH
In Obergurgl guests interested in natural history are in the very right place: The nature park exhibition at 2670 m high Hohe Mut Alm provides them with valuable facts and figures about the key topics "Glacier - Climate - High Alpine Research". With a view of the mighty glaciers in Rotmoostal and Gaisbergtal, the exhibition is in particularly close touch with nature.

Focusing on glacier and climate
The bilingual (German/English), interactive exhibition centers on life in and on the glacier, noticeable climate change and decades of high Alpine research in Upper Ötztal. On an exhibition area covering about 135 m², selected exhibits on the high Alpine flora and fauna are presented and the colorful variety of Obergurgl's world of stones is explained as well. Even real glacier ice can be felt and experienced up close.

10 theme stations provide deep insights into the most amazing results of high Alpine research. Its centerpiece is a large, multimedia touchscreen that communicates the informative scientific details and facts about Obergurgl in a playful way. Another highlight is the 3500 year old ibex horn which was found in the immediate vicinity of the exhibition in 2011, and confirms the earlier presence of ibexes in the area.

Aim of science since 1951
High Alpine research in the areas around Obergurgl/Rotmoostal has a long tradition. For example, the Alpine Research Center was founded in 1951 in a vacant customs house, since then it has been supporting scientists and students who work on varied topics in the Alpine habitat. As a branch office of Innsbruck's University, the research center also focuses on long-term ecosystem monitoring programs.
