On the 8th of March 2014, a group of local snowboarders and freeskiers met at the Snowpark Schöneben for a spring session marked out by blue bird, warm temperatures and an absolutely perfect park! Our media crew was supported by an octocopter - needless to say that the shooting got on a whole new freestyle level!

Saturday, 8th March 2014, 9 a.m., Snowpark Schöneben: our day began with splendid sunshine, bluebird and springlike temperatures. The freeskiers Mathias Obmascher, Alexander Angerer, Michael Plattner, Elias Reinstadler and Lukas Sprenger, together with the snowboarders Klaus Platzgummer, Dominik Ganthaler, Ludwig Andres and Florian Puintner, could not wait to shred the perfectly shaped park. The program was straightforward: followed by the cameras of filmmakers Michael Putz and Florian Albert and photographer Marco Freudenreich, the nine riders delivered a freestyle show featuring the cream of their trick repertoire on the stage of the medium and pro areas, demonstrating how to rock rails, tubes and jumps. And who could reveal the secrets of the park better than some locals?

After a quick consultation with the media crew and some warm-up runs, the guys on boards and twin-tips tackled the big kickers of the pro area without further ado. Notably, the biggest of the jumps has got a 15m table and we assure you, there is no better launching pad for trying out the thrill of flying! Talking about flying, the entire action was also followed closely by an octocopter, which was floating over the sunny snowpark. In view of the shooting day, the shape crew directed by park designer Oriol Rosell did a tip-top job preparing the obstacles, so that the park was showing its best side to riders, visitors and media crew. “This is my third time at the park this season, but every time I visit, I always find a perfect snowpark, the crew does an amazing job! The setup has something for everyone, there are many creative elements. For example, I really like the wallride with the rail on it!” freeskier Mathias Obmascher says.

Once they had dutifully jumped all kickers, our motivated crew focused on rails, tubes, boxes and the other jib elements of the park. Full of energy, skiers and snowboarders polished their skis and boards on the obstacles, with the small octocopter flying above their heads, shooting their tricks from a 360° perspective. The riders showed us what they’re made of: every single one contributed largely to the shooting with his personal style and technique. Snowboarder Dominik Ganthaler echoes Mathias: “The park may not be that big but it is really good and well structured. The jumps alone already deserve a visit! And also the rest of the setup has some nice treats in store, like the flat box combined with the down rail… everyone can spend a relaxed shred day here! That’s exactly what we did: beautiful weather, nice people, splendid park and an amazing panorama!”

A good shape crew is not only responsible for the snowpark and its obstacles, but also for the spirits of its visitors. Therefore, while the riders were shredding the park above, lower down the shapers were busy preparing a barbecue, and at the end of the shooting welcomed the whole crew with love and sausages. There’s no denying it, there is no better way to end a shooting day than with good cheer! Snowboarder Ludwig Andres seems to share our views on the matter: “Despite the almost summerlike heat, the snow was still perfect today! What an awesome Saturday, it was one of the best days of the season so far. And the barbecue at the end of the session was just awesome!”

To sum up, Saturday was a perfect day to shred and shoot the park, and that can be seen in the scenic pics and the breathtaking videos which come with the article. All you have to do now is enjoy the freeski and snowboard edits and get some inspiration from the photo albums with our riders on skis and boards – next time, it will up to you to show us how things are done!
